The journal ranking was based on a survey of all professors of economics and econometrics employed in Australian universities. They were requested to consult widely with their colleagues. The A* journals were defined as the top 5%, the A journals as the next 15%, the B journals the next 30%, and the C journals were the bottom 50%.
